STORIEMAN – 

Rikus woon op ’n wildplaas in die Pilanesberg-gebied waar twee van hul
renosters deur stropers afgemaai word. Dan keer sy wêreld op sy kop wanneer
hy uitvind dat sy ouers besig is om te skei te midde van sy matriek-eindeksamen.
Dit raak veel erger toe sy ma ʼn verhouding met ʼn wewenaar, Frans du Toit, begin
wat ook ʼn dogter van dieselfde ouderdom as Rikus het. Druk laai toenemend
op met ʼn plaasaanval en daarna die werkers se huise wat aan die brand gesteek
word as weerwraak vir hul optrede teen die stropers. Rikus probeer sin maak van
alles deur bedags weg te glip na die buurplaas van die sogenaamde kluisenaar,
Jakus Stoop. Hy is egter ʼn skrywer, die Storieman, wat hom leer dat mens nie
van jou probleme weghardloop nie, dat daar vryheid in vergifnis is en hom help
om perspektief te kry oor onvolmaakte liefde en kameraadskap.

Rikus lives on a game farm in the Pilanesberg area where two of their rhinos were poached for their horns. His world is turned
upside down when his parents get divorced during his final matric exams. On top of this his mother meets a widower, Frans
du Toit, who also has a daughter of almost the same age as Rikus. Things become increasingly intense with a farm attack and
the labourers’ houses which were set on fire as revenge for their action against the poachers. Rikus tries to make sense of this
all by escaping to the neighbouring farm of the so-called hermit, Jakus Stoop. It turns out that he is actually an author who
teaches Rikus that it does not help to run away from your problems, that there is freedom in forgiveness and helps him to gain
perspective on imperfect love and companionship.
• Storieman is a gripping youth book full of suspense and excitement which will keep the readers enthralled till the end.

Mona van der Schyff woon saam met haar man in die Kaap. Sy skryf vir die afgelope tien jaar
kortverhale vir Afrikaanse tydskrifte. Daar het onlangs ʼn roman, Geboortereg, van haar verskyn.
Storieman is haar eerste jeugverhaal.
Mona van der Schyff lives with her husband in the Cape. For the past ten years she wrote short
stories for Afrikaans magazines. Recently her novel, Geboortereg, was published. Storieman is her
first novel for young people.
